NEWARK HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS HALL OF FAME is planning an induction ceremony for Saturday, January 14, 2012, at the Jimmy Allen Gymnasium at Newark High School, prior to Varsity Basketball Game.  A social gathering will take place immediately after (approximately 9:30 p.m.) at the Elks Club.

One of the inductees is Class of 1959’s Tom Wortman. Tom earned twelve Varsity Letters at Newark High School, three in each of four sports. Tom is only one of two men to achieve that distinction. Among other achievements, Tom was awarded the Loyd Millisor Outstanding Athlete Award at graduation. A career of coaching continued when Tom returned to Newark in 1977 to teach and coach at Newark High School and Newark Catholic High School.

If you still live in the area or are going to be in the area, tickets to the game, ceremony, and social gathering are free if you reserve tickets. Contact Jack Shumaker at JABA1690@aol.com, and he will leave your name for free tickets at the box office to be picked up the night of the game. An area will be roped off for guests. You should probably arrive around 6:45 p.m. Let’s have a HUGE turnout to let Tom know the Class of 1959 and it many friends ARE PROUD OF HIM!!
